We caught up with TLE to discuss the latest editions to the Vasquiat catalogue, the brand's environmentally friendly approach, and how the current pandemic has turned out to be a positive tool for change.

VASQUIAT How would you define the latest pieces which have just landed at Vasquiat?

THE LABEL EDITIONJoyful, embracing and effortless. These pieces are all defined by a desire to address our need to re-connect, both with ourselves and with others. Slowly leaving behind a year-long cloud of somberness, these pieces intend to re-discover the joie de vivre in the simplicity of sharing moments together. Either in blossoming flower prints and vivid colors or in calming and neutral tones they give off unique energy. These are garments are intended to embrace the body and free the mind so that those who wear them can concentrate on playing and having fun with them.

VCan you tell us about the fabrics used?

TLEWe have strived to use fabrics that are naturally sourced and manufactured, such as recycled fibers and organic cotton. This selection is the result of a zealous search for quality and responsibility from local suppliers. We care deeply about the impact we make on the environment; without it, we wouldn’t have space to wear the garments, let alone to produce them. We have also started to use dead-stock, in order to give a second life to materials that have been discarded and contribute to upcycling. This choice of fabrics gives an added value of exclusivity to our pieces, feeding into a more conscious and honest approach to understand fashion.

VTLE features in our current campaign related to empowerment through style for spring. Do you believe what you wear makes a difference to how you feel?

TLE Definitely. Fashion is a channel to express your inner world, and vice versa: what you wear influences how you feel, in a mutually-nurturing relationship. We carry this belief at the very core of the brand’s DNA, our mission is to design clothes that “accompany the essence of women, and never overwhelm”. Blouses with exuberant frills, baggy pants, and comfortable yet elegant sets are some of the pieces aimed at inspiring security and warmth – a much-needed break from the uncertainty and coldness we’ve been experiencing lately.

VIn a fashion industry that is changing in many ways for the better, where do you see yourself and other emerging, creative designers in the future of fashion?

TLE This global pandemic has accelerated many processes in motion, triggering reflection upon several problematic and unsustainable aspects of fashion. Value chains interrupted and logistics challenged, we have been forced to press pause and re-consider whether the frenetic rhythm at which we produce and consume makes sense. This has pushed brands to seek alternative solutions due to the unavailability of their usual suppliers and traditional fashion week formats, driving towards a more respectful and reasonable industry, aware of its implications. Lockdown has also convinced brands to endorse the digital angle in order to maintain the closeness to their audience. All of the above has paradoxically turned Covid-19 into a positive tool for change. A metamorphosis unfolding quickly due to the unparalleled situation we are all experiencing, but that still has a long way to go. Since the beginning, The Label Edition has worked with limited editions and capsules, a formula that will be increasingly adopted by designers in the upcoming future. We see fashion labels pushing for a more relaxed and organic calendar, that follows the natural flow of creativity and is aimed at building a timeless wardrobe.
